Funding to the RAS would rise from 120 billion to 170 billion roubles (US$3·8 billion to $5·4 billion) over the next 3 years to cover the administration of its institutes, meaning it would have a lot more money to dedicate to research. At the moment the RAS receives around 60 billion roubles a year ($1·9 billion) and some 70% of that is used for salaries and maintenance, but under this proposal the academy would receive 55 billion roubles—almost the same, purely for research.
